Remember when we mourned the Motorola brand in 2016? It seems Lenovo wants to bring the name back to life.
Like Digital Trends pointed out, the redirection is somewhat surprising, given that Lenovo only started to reposition Moto as a sub-brand in early 2016. However, the Chairman and President of Motorola Mobility, Aymar de Lencquesaing said:
“In 2016, we just finished transforming ourselves. We have clarity on how we present ourselves.”
What does this mean, you might ask?
The widely recognized older branding — Motorola—will roll out everywhere, but the timing would depend on the region. He specifically mentioned Brazil as one of Motorola’s stronger markets, no words on Africa.
I guess the move was inspired by HMD, their decision to retain the Nokia brand and the recognition they are getting from that decision.
