Qualcomm reveals the Snapdragon X55 Modem for Faster 5G Speeds

Tech company, Qualcomm has launched the latest 5G modem – the Snapdragon X55. This product supports wireless speeds up to 7Gbps however the most exciting feature is its ability to support 4G LTE and older networks such as 3G and 2G.

Also, the X55 supports features such as mmWave for high-bandwidth and sub-6GHz which offers better coverage. Since it works on both TDD and FDD networks, it can be used in devices developed for consumers in China or Western markets.

With the mmWave network, the Snapdragon X55 can consume 8000MHz bandwidth with (2×2 MIMO) during a 7Gbps download and a 3Gbps upload. In frequencies under 6GHz, the mode reaches up to 100MHz and 4×4 MIMO.

Besides, the new device works fast on 4G LTE networks. The speeds on the chipset are up to 2.5Gbps for downloads and 0.3Gbps for uploads. But if we choose to consider its future use, the X55 features a Stand-Alone Mode for an era where 5G networks are present (the X50 chooses the Non-Stand Alone mode).

We want to add that “2G” and “3G” support Qualcomm means both GSM and CDMA variants thus EDGE, EV-DO e.t.c are supported by the new modem. Overall, it works on any available cell network.

The bright side of having the Snapdragon X55 support old networks is that it can be integrated into chipsets without modems. Smartphones or tablets with the X50 depend on the processor’s LTE features, the recent example being the Snapdragon 855.

With this launch, we expect to have a large number of devices sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem in the final quarter of 2019.
